Nigeria: Over 1000 Christians Killed by Armed Militia Since January

December 6, 2019

Christian persecution in Nigeria: Muslim Fulani herdsmen, along with the terror group Boko Haram, have been terrorizing and killing Christians in Nigeria with impunity for years now, with little or no significant response from the Nigerian government or military. This article provides the salient fact that this killing spree has taken the lives of 1000 Christians this year alone.

This underscores the fact that the situation of Christians in Nigeria has become a human rights catastrophe of immense proportions. The Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, once again urgently implores the United Nations and the governments of all nations that are committed to human rights and religious freedom to make the plight of Nigeria’s Christians a top priority. Those Christians are walking the way of the Cross. May our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ also bless them with the joy of a resurrection and new flourishing of their communities.

A report by Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust has revealed that at least 1000 Christians have been killed by the Boko Haram insurgents since the beginning of 2019.

The report was presented at the International Organisation for Peace and Social Justice crisis conference in London, according to ChurchTimes, a Christian based website.

Baroness Cox, Founder of HART, explained that herdsmen were largely responsible for the new wave of violence….

She said, “While the underlying causes of violence are complex, the asymmetry and escalation of attacks by well-armed Fulani militia upon predominantly Christian communities is stark, and must be acknowledged….

“Unless the UK and Nigerian governments are willing to address the massacre’s ideological roots, they will never be able to help the innocent victims being slaughtered on the killing fields of Plateau, Benue, Taraba, Southern Kaduna, and parts of Bauchi….
