“Nigerian Christians in Plateau State Receive Threats of Impending Attacks,” International Christian Concern, July 3, 2023:

07/3/2023 Nigeria (International Christian Concern) – Nigerian Christian communities in Plateau State were warned by Fulani extremists over the weekend of impending attacks.

Locals in Hukke Village, North-Central Nigeria recently received a threatening letter from a Fulani militant, promising an attack on villages surrounding Bassa County. Meanwhile, locals in the Riyom and Barkin Ladi local government areas (LGAs) received a tip that their communities would soon be targeted.

Christians in Hukke Village received the threatening letter near a river where Fulani grazed their cattle. The letter was written in Hausa, using the Fulani style of speaking the Hausa language. The letter stated that villages including Te’egbe, Ancha, Hukke, and Zogu would be attacked. In addition, the writer shared that they had no interest in a peace pact with Christians and were ready to use their guns.

The community submitted the letter to the military in charge of security in Hukke but Fulani denied sending the letter. Locals have in the past received threatening letters prior to attacks.

An anonymous source also shared with International Christian Concern (ICC) and Christian media outlets over the weekend that a Fulani warlord vowed to uproot villages in the Riyyom and Barkin Ladi local government areas (LGAs). Dozens of Christians in this region, including pastors, were killed this year and many homes and farms destroyed. There are 17 LGAs in Plateau State and more than 700 in Nigeria.

“We received credible information that Fulani militias and bandits brought from Zamfara, and other states have vowed to bring down the villages including (Barkin Ladi LGA) Gassa in Ropp District; Chit and Tapo in Heipang District; and … Rawuru, Saga, Nafan in Fan District. In the Riyom LGA, the villages of Kwi, Wereng-Camp, Wereng, Kum and Byei, Jol, Tashek, Tanjol, Rim, and Ganawuri.”…

“There will be destruction of farmlands, especially late evening and midnight hours,” said the source. “No security will dare attempt to arrest any of them if they (security) love their lives.”…
