The persecution of Christians in Nigeria has grown so brazen and virulent that now even “a peaceful prayer walk organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN), Kogi East chapter, to pray for the peace of the country and God’s intervention to stop the current shedding of innocent blood” has been violently attacked by anti-Christian thugs.
Although the local governor condemned this attack, it is unlikely that any significant action will be taken. Christians in Nigeria have been brutalized and killed with impunity for years now, with little or no significant response from the Nigerian government or military. It is clear that Nigerian authorities have little or no interest in securing law-abiding, defenseless Christians against these unrelenting massacres, ethnic cleansing, and hostage-cleansing.
The Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, once again urgently implores the United Nations and the governments of all nations that are committed to human rights and religious freedom to make the plight of Nigeria’s Christians a top priority. Those Christians are walking the way of the Cross. May our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ also bless them with the joy of a resurrection and new flourishing of their communities.

“Thugs attack Christian procession, beat up pastors, abduct 3 in Kogi,” Blueprint, October 21, 2020:
Unknown gunmen believed to be political thugs allegedly working for politicians Monday stormed the Dunamis Church Anyigba, in Dekina local government area of Kogi state where some Christians were holding a procession.
They reportedly beat up pastors and abducted three people.
The thugs allegedly led by a former council boss in Dekina local government were said to have violently disrupted a peaceful prayer walk organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN), Kogi East chapter, to pray for the peace of the country and God’s intervention to stop the current shedding of innocent blood.
The thugs were said to have shot sporadically into the air and went straight to the leader of the Christians group, Bishop David Sanders, beat him up and tore his clothes into shreds until he became unconscious.
Several other church leaders and worshippers were also said to have been beaten to stupor, including some women and children, while the property of Dunamis Int’l Church where the prayer walk was to commence from was vandalized.
Three other church leaders, including the zonal secretary of the prayer group, Silas Edegbo, were later taken away to an unknown destination.
Speaking with newsmen on phone, the resident pastor of the church, Samson Ejila expressed sadness that a peaceful Christians’ prayer walk for the country could be so disrupted with so many people sustaining various degrees of injuries.
Ejila, however, confirmed that the three abducted members were released in the early hours of Tuesday after they had been thoroughly tortured.
