Nicaragua: Second Roman Catholic bishop arrested and imprisoned

Nicaragua is 50% Roman Catholic and 33% evangelical Protestant. Many Catholics and evangelicals are being targeted by the regime of Marxist strongman Daniel Ortega as “coup plotters” and “enemies of the regime.”

This Wednesday, December 20, the regime’s police arrested the bishop of the diocese of Siuna, Monsignor Isidro del Carmen Mora Ortega, 63 years old. He is the second Catholic leader to be imprisoned by the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo in the midst of a crusade against the Catholic Church of Nicaragua.

The bishop was intercepted by the Police when he was heading to the Santa Cruz parish, in the municipality of La Cruz de Río Grande, where he planned to perform the confirmations to 230 parishioners, a source confided to the Mosaico CSI portal.

The arrest occurs a day after the Catholic leader expressed that the Episcopal Conference of Nicaragua (CEN) remains united in prayer, both for the Diocese of Matagalpa and for its bishop Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, sentenced by the dictatorship to 26 years in prison and stripped of his Nicaraguan nationality for crimes associated with treason.
