Persecution of Christians in Kenya: despite the fact that Kenya is 80% Christian (including over 600,000 Orthodox Christians), the Christians are subjected to periodic persecution there, due to the close proximity of the Somali Islamic militant group al-Shabaab. This article demonstrates yet again how difficult and precarious life is for Christians in some areas of Kenya, whether or not these arsonists were members of al-Shabaab.

“Police arrest 10 suspects linked to burning of five churches in Kisii County, Kenya,” by Britta Milovansev, DOHI News, February 3, 2021:
10 people were arrested on Tuesday, January 26, in connection with the burning of five churches in Otamba village, in Kisii County.
According to Police, the ten suspects are being interrogated at the Kisii County DCI Headquarters to establish the motive behind arson attacks on churches in the area.
Five churches burned: In the span of four days five churches were torched in Obamba village, Kisii County, Kenya, in the early mornings of Jan 20 – Jan 24 between 1am – 3am, sweeping fear into Christians and local residents.
January 20: St. Monica Church
January 21: Worldwide Church, Seventh Day Adventist church and Legio Maria church
January 24: the Pentecostal church.
The arsonists had also smeared human feces onto the buildings in efforts to discourage church members from attending services in their ruined churches.
The churches incurred extensive damages to the buildings, chairs and other items inside.
“Evil should not overcome the good that the gospel of Christ brings,” said the priest at Legio Maris [sic] church, whose name is withheld for security purposes….
