India: Eight Christians Beaten After Church Service

February 16, 2024

Many Hindus believe that conversion to Christianity is an attack on their culture and way of life, and an imminent threat to both, despite the fact that Christianity has been a presence in India since the days of St. Thomas the Apostle. The attackers beat them with sticks and clubs for some time before emergency services had to transport them to the ICU in order to care for their injuries.

The pastor sustained the worst of the injuries to both his head and chest, and he remained in critical condition for some time. He has led this church in his home for many years, and this is not the first time he has been subjected to brutal persecution. Still, he continues on in the work the Lord has called him to, serving the local church as much as he is able to.

In response to the incident, a local believer said, “The persecution has increased after the new Government formed in the state. The Christian community has been going through psychological trauma, as both radical Hindu nationalists and the successful administration of the state target the Christian minorities.”…
