Persecution of Christians in China: There are no checks on the power of the Chinese government within China, and this court case is yet another indication of that. The Chinese government continues to act against practically any and all expressions of the Christian faith, as well as against Christians themselves.
The Chinese government is attempting to create a form of Christianity with “Chinese characteristics,” that is a Christianity that is a tool to reinforce the all-encompassing power of the state. This is a matter of grave concern also for all the Christians of the country, including the tiny community of Orthodox Christians. The Orthodox churches in China could be closed at any time at the whim of local officials, and Orthodox Christians taken into custody.
China offers yet another instance of the persecution of Christians by governing officials that is unfortunately on the increase not only in China, but in all too many other nations around the world.

“Sellers of Audio Bible Players in China Face Court,” International Christian Concern, December 1, 2020:
12/01/2020 China (International Christian Concern) – The four Christians in China’s Guangdong province: Fu Xuanjuan, Deng Tianyong, Han Li, and Feng Qunhao, who were arrested on July 2 on charges of “illegal business operations” for selling Bible players are now facing court.
According to China Aid, on October 23, Shenzhen Bao’an People’s Procuratorate charged the four Christians with varying degrees of sentences. As the general manager and executive director of Life Tree Culture Communication Co., the suggested sentence for Fu is five years; Deng as the company’s supervisor is three years with fine; Feng as the technician also three years with fine, while Han as the accountant 18 months with fine.
The procuratorate has already submitted the case to Bao’an People’s Court. On November 27, the court opened a court hearing at the Sixth Tribunal, with the second hearing scheduled for December 9.
The four are currently detained in Bao’an District Detention Center.
…The hefty sentences against these Christians are used to scare other Christians so they would not dare to sell Bibles without going through state-sanctioned churches.
